Hi Everyone, my name is Lee (AKA Mad Max) and I'm your representative for Pocahontas
County. We have some of the most beautiful riding here that I have ever experienced, I enjoy it on a daily basis and am looking forward to having you join me. I am a member of GWRRA and ABATE of West Virginia and try to keep up with local and regional events. If you need info about the Pocahontas County area or regional events for this area E-mail Me at- madmax51_1@yahoo.com I'm looking forward to hearing from you and hope to see you on the road. |
Route 219 travels down the western slope of the Cheat Mountain Access to Pocahontas County
from the Lewisburg or Elkins areas. Good road and riding, southern part south
of Hillsboro is fairly twisty. Route 250 crosses Cheat Mountain from the Elkins area and crosses into Highland County, VA, on top of Allegheny Mountain going to Monterey, VA. A few patches on the road on Cheat Mountain and some pretty good twisties . A good ride, just not one to try to do too fast due to the road conditions. Route 92 is the same as 250 until it turns south at Bartow towards Greenbrier County. (White Sulphur Springs area) The road conditions are good and the ride on 92 is straighter than most of the other roads here. Route 28 enters the county from Pendleton County and the Potomac Highlands area. Its a good ride with pretty scenery until it ends where it joins Route 39 at Huntersville. Route 66 begins just south of Green Bank (Rts. 28 & 92),travels through Cass and provides access to Snowshoe and Rt. 219 from the eastern side of Cheat Mountain. It is narrow, crooked, has lots of traffic and some of the turns aren't banked well. For your safety ride this one carefully. Route 84 runs east from Frost off Rt.92 until it joins Rt 220 just south of Monterey, VA. Pretty farming country. Probably 20 miles end to end. Route 39 enters on top of Kennison Mountain coming from Richwood and goes to the state line toward Warm Springs, VA. Pretty ride and passes through Marlinton our largest town . Route 150, The Highland Scenic Highway travels from Rt. 39 at the top of Kennison Mountain and travels to Rt. 219 at the top of Elk Mountain just north of Marlinton. Ya' just gotta ride this one. All mountain top with views that go on for ever. Probably the prettiest ride in Pocahontas County. Nice road too. That's about it for our major roads. For more info on secondary roads or more details on any of these just drop me an email. Remember, Pocahontas County is a tourist county. Watch your speed or you will get a ticket — especially if you're from out-of-state. |

Home Cooking: The Hermitage Motel and Restaurant located at the main intersection in the northern area of Pocahontas County,(Routes 28,92,250) at Bartow has really good food and reasonable prices. Boyer Station Restaurant, 4 miles south of Bartow on Routes 28 & 92 has a good restaurant plus a motel and campground. They host a couple bike events every summer and are real popular locally. French's Diner located on Main St. Rt.39 in Marlinton has good food too,I eat there every time I'm in Marlinton. Susan, another biker from down in the southern end of the county tells me that The Country Roads Cafe,Rt. 219 in Hillsboro, is a good place to eat. I haven't been there but I'm looking forward to it. Snowshoe Mountain has several restaurants, most have pretty good food but are kinda pricey. |
Night Life: Snowshoe has several bars, some with entertainment depending on what's going on at the mountain. Most are nice but pricey. The Upper Inn Club in Durbin has food and all legal beverages. The Roadhouse, on First Ave. in Marlinton serves food and all legal beverages. |
Motorcycle Repair: Amos Cycle Repair & Towing in Marlinton (304) 799-6011 is our county's only bike repair shop. Murphy's Wrecker Service has a rollback truck and hauls bikes. (304) 456-4858. |
