VFW Ride in Marietta, Ohio
Sometimes you just can't say no --

Friends in Smithville invited us along for the VFW Poker Run in Marietta, OH. Just getting to the run was a road trip in itself.

Hot coffee seemed the beverage of choice as we met with those riding from southern Ritchie County.
With temps hovering in the upper 40's, we traveled Rt. 16 North to St. Marys before crossing the Ohio River and riding on to Marietta. A large crowd was on hand for the run, and it was nice seeing a lot of new faces.
Several different clubs were represented, including the Diamond Dogs M/C, Brothers of the Wheel M/C, Wheels of Freedom M/C, and several folks from the Christian Motorcycle Association M/C. The couple shown in the picture was accompanied by their daughter, who was the youngest rider in attendance. I think we had as much fun watching her as we did riding.
And what a great ride it was across the rolling countryside in Ohio. We noticed fewer potholes for one thing!
One of our riding companions informed me I was NOT to publish this photo, because she had just learned the important lesson of remembering to turn off the key when leaving the bike. (A hill closeby made easy work of re-starting).
Seems my parents had the same problem with me doing exactly what they told me not to.......
At the end of the run, we returned to a packed house at the Marietta VFW. Folks were friendly, and I would recommend anyone to make one of their sponsored runs.
On the return trip, we passed the Willow Island Power Plant, which was a sober reminder of the 45 men who lost their lives during the towers' construction in 1978.
