Hi, my name is Billie Seckman, some people call me "Scrat" I am your Representative for Berkeley County. If you have ever traveled North or South from Maryland or Virginia on I-81 you went through the heart of this county.
Once you get off the big slab there are a lot of great roads to take going west or east that will lead you to a multitude of historical sites or just a stop by for viewing.
Berkeley County is one of West Virginia's fastest
growing counties. We are approximatly 65 miles northwest of Washington, DC, and just west of Baltimore MD.We are fortunate that in less than 30 minutes from here you can be in 3 different states.
I am the First Officer of the Berkeley County Southern Cruisers, Chapter 358. We do a lot of rides in the area and abroad. So whether you plan on visiting us on business, pleasure or just passing through, I hope that my suggestions can help you. If there is something special you are looking for just
E-Mail Me and I will see what I can do for you.
Road Conditions & Recommended Rides

As I stated before, I-81 runs right through the heart of this county but not without its construction. As you approach Mile marker 10 you will run into the construction zone. They are rebuilding the bridge and widening the road to three lanes. Once you pass exit 12 you will be out of the zone until you get to Exit 20, and once again they are repairing the bridges there and making it wider. Watch out for switching lanes and grooves where they have ground up the road, it kinda wakes you up when your bike starts wobbling on the road.

Here is a route I really like to take a lot for its scenery. There is very little traffic and you can do it in about two hours or less. Depending on how fast you
ride.
>From I-81 Exit 16W Rt.9 W
Continue on Rt.9 going
Straight at red light Rt 9/901, Hedgesville
Left onto WV Rt 7 S Back Creek Rd.
Right onto WV Rt 45 W Glengory Rd.
Right  at STOP VA Rt 681 Green Spring Rd.
Right at Brush Creek Rd.
Right at Rt 522 N North Fredrick Pike
Once you reach Rt 522 you can Turn left and come back to Winchester VA, and
pick up I-81 via Rt.37 or turn right and go through Berkeley Springs. and pick up Rt.9 again. Either route will bring you back to a circle. All of these  roads are nice –  some freshly paved.

Now if you want to take most part of the day with a lot of twisties, go through Berkeley Springs at the Second stop light from the center of town, turn left at the light onto Rt.9 W again. This will take you to Rt 29. Go South to Augusta, pick up Rt. 50 East back to Winchester VA, then on to I-81. All are great roads with great scenery.
